Case Study: U.S. Department of the Interior achieves business modernization and efficiency with SAP

A SAP Case Study

Preview of the U.S. Department of the Interior Case Study

Accelerating business modernization and efficiency at the U.S. Department of the Interior

The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) needed a way to modernize and standardize finance, budget, property, travel, and reporting processes across ten bureaus that had been using disconnected legacy systems. Working with SAP and its Financial and Business Management System (FBMS), DOI aimed to improve efficiency, accuracy, transparency, and taxpayer stewardship at a massive scale.

SAP helped DOI move from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA and enhance analytics with SAP BW/4HANA, with all ten bureaus going live together in 2024. The result was a fully integrated enterprise platform supporting 14,000 users, 26 million annual transactions, 55 DOI system interfaces, and 87 legacy systems retired, while also delivering faster processing, more intuitive SAP Fiori access, and real-time reporting.
