A SAP Case Study
Kyndryl, the global IT infrastructure services provider, faced a tight two-year TSA exit after becoming independent from IBM, with heavily customized and fragmented legacy systems that were expensive to run and difficult to standardize. Kyndryl turned to SAP to help build a lean, modern operating environment using a greenfield approach and minimal customization.
SAP implemented a simplified global SAP platform spanning SAP S/4HANA Cloud Enterprise Management, central finance, Ariba, Fieldglass, MDG, BW/4HANA, Cloud ALM, and BTP-based integrations. The result was major simplification and scale: 190 finance applications were consolidated into one global ledger, 375 legacy applications were reduced into the SAP tool suite, general ledger accounts dropped from over 60,000 to under 1,000, and Kyndryl configured SAP for 66 countries in 18 months. The transformation delivered a 96% reduction in back-office applications and is expected to generate an estimated USD 200–300 million in SG&A savings over time.
