Hornbeck Offshore Services Improving Efficiency and Visibility into Employee Credentials with Insight from SAP Solutions

Hornbeck Offshore Services, a marine transportation provider with a roughly 1,200–1,350 person workforce and a 70-vessel fleet, faced the challenge of managing mariner credentials, payroll, performance, and rapid crewing decisions in a highly regulated industry and a fast-paced spot market that can require staffing changes in less than 24 hours. To eliminate islands of HR data and improve compliance, Hornbeck implemented the SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite—including SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central—with implementation support from HRIZONS LLC.

Using SAP SuccessFactors as an integrated, cloud-based system of record, Hornbeck prototyped credential tracking, retrofitted recruitment, enabled mariner self-service, and centralized workforce data to allow instant retrieval and validation of credentials. The SAP SuccessFactors deployment reduced duplicate data entry, enabled remote approvals for promotions and transfers, improved compliance with IMO requirements, and gave Hornbeck the agility to staff vessels more quickly and capitalize on spot-market opportunities while supporting planned fleet growth.
