Case Study: State of Indiana reduces infant mortality and saves lives with SAP HANA

A SAP HANA Case Study

Preview of the State of Indiana Case Study

Using SAP HANA to Combat Infant Mortality and Save Hoosier Lives

The State of Indiana launched the Management and Performance Hub (MPH) to tackle an infant mortality rate above the national average. Governor-directed and led by the Office of Management and Budget and the Indiana Office of Technology, the initiative partnered with KSM Consulting to bring enterprise-wide, data-driven analysis to public health decision making.

Using SAP HANA with SAP Predictive Analytics and SAP Lumira, the MPH rapidly combined 15 datasets and more than 9 billion rows to develop algorithms that identified at‑risk subpopulations and produced three key findings for targeted interventions. The insights informed a $13.5 million budget proposal for new programs, will support a planned mobile app for mothers, and are being extended to other state priorities like fraud, recidivism, and child abuse.
