A SAP HANA Case Study
Evonik, a global specialty-chemicals company with about 33,000 employees and €15 billion in revenue, faced rising database memory and hardware costs as its technical landscape and data volumes grew. The platform team needed a cost-effective way to offload unused or infrequently used data without hindering growth or innovation, and engaged SAP experts for guidance and a proof of concept.
Using SAP MaxAttention and SAP Services, Evonik implemented SAP HANA native storage extension with remote system analysis, table partitioning, and a tested roadmap for rollout. The initiative cut memory usage substantially—about 63% for the legacy SAP ERP system and roughly 13% savings for productive SAP S/4HANA and Solution Manager—reducing total database operating costs.
