TasNetworks Digitalizing Asset Inspections While Strengthening Safety Culture

TasNetworks, the state‑owned operator of Tasmania’s electricity transmission and distribution network managing some 231,300 poles, faced gaps in digital asset management that caused slow inspections, heavy back‑office processing and business risk. Existing field software couldn’t be tailored to pole inspections, data captured offline didn’t sync in real time, and defects were often logged against the wrong asset, undermining maintenance accuracy and safety auditing.

Working with Bourne Digital, TasNetworks built the Aspect mobile app on SAP Business Technology Platform, integrating SAP ERP, Esri ArcGIS and SAP Workflow Management to deliver a map‑first, offline‑capable inspection tool with embedded job‑risk assessments and automated back‑end workflows. The solution cut sync times from ~30 minutes to 30 seconds, reduced back‑office processing by 25%, achieved 100% compliance in asset attribute capture, and improved data quality, safety, and auditability.
