Royal Greenland Supporting Sustainable Fishing from Sea to Fishermen to Table

Royal Greenland A/S, a 200-year-old Arctic seafood company, depends on independent fishermen but was hampered by a paper-based catch registration process that forced crews to complete paperwork in freezing conditions and required procurement teams to manually re-enter orders into ERP systems. The manual workflow made traceability, compliance with Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) rules, and fair pricing difficult, creating a clear need for a simple, digital solution that works offline and requires minimal training.

In partnership with Trifork and SAP, Royal Greenland built three apps on SAP Business Technology Platform: a native iPhone app for fishermen to submit catch data and signatures, an iPad app for procurement staff to record quality and MSC-required details, and a web app for back-office approvals, all integrated with SAP HANA and ERP systems. The rollout—now used by about 2,200 fishermen and converting 70,000 purchase orders from paper to digital—reduced errors and noncompliance, sped time to market, improved staff allocation, simplified accounting, and helped fishermen secure better prices.
