Reducing Implementation Costs and Avoiding Unnecessary Modifications with Help from GSS

Eletrobras, Brazil’s largest power company responsible for about 35% of national generation and 52% of transmission, needed to innovate more efficiently without reinventing the wheel. The challenge was to standardize enterprise-wide business requirements and reduce implementation and operation costs while avoiding unnecessary customizations that drive ongoing maintenance and testing effort.

Working with SAP’s Global Service & Support, Eletrobras reimplemented SAP ERP Central Component, consolidated diverse landscapes, and adopted SAP Best Practices, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Warehouse functionality via enhancement packages and new releases. By eliminating custom modifications and moving “back to standard,” the company reduced development and operating costs, established a technical risk mitigation plan, and identified 31 back-to-standard cases that represent about $100,000 in consulting-fee savings (30% of 261 procurement requirements were standard functionality, with 10% flagged as potential back-to-standard).
