A SAP HANA Case Study
BASF, the global chemical group headquartered in Ludwigshafen, needed to give its 10,000-strong R&D workforce fast, reliable access to scientific and patent information to support roughly 1,000 patent applications a year. Facing some 80 million documents, the company’s challenge was to make research more efficient and provide scientists with a sound basis for decisions amid rapid product innovation.
BASF and SAP co‑innovated an SAP HANA–based information hub that aggregates, analyzes, organizes, and enriches literature and patent data with advanced text search, structured storage, and collaboration features. The platform sped workflows, improved reuse of existing knowledge, made the latest technical insights easier to analyze, and helped teams identify attractive research niches more quickly—strengthening decision-making across R&D and patenting.
