A SAP HANA Case Study
Sumitomo Heavy Industries, a major Japanese maker of industrial and construction machinery with global sales accounting for over half its revenue, needed to strengthen groupwide business management as it expanded internationally. The company faced fragmented, heavily customized accounting systems across business units and had to meet IFRS requirements while enabling faster, standardized financial processes and greater agility for reorganizations, M&A, and growth.
To address this, Sumitomo deployed SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA using the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, minimizing custom add-ons and launching the platform in April 2015 for the head office and 13 domestic group companies. The new cloud-based accounting platform delivered real-time reporting and faster month-end close, reduced infrastructure and IT-administration costs by consolidating servers and using HANA views for a simplified data warehouse, and provided flexible scaling with plans to extend the system across more domestic and overseas units.
