Improving Data Quality and System Performance with Selective Data Migration

Grupo Chedraui is a nearly century-old Mexican retailer with 431 grocery and department stores across Latin America and the U.S., employing over 40,000 people. Its single-instance SAP ERP system had grown to about 32 TB, causing data-quality and performance problems—especially in finance and material documents—and the company needed to move to SAP S/4HANA without disrupting business operations.

Working with SAP’s Data Management and Landscape Transformation (DMLT) team, Chedraui used the selective data migration service and migration workbench to identify and cleanse active master and transaction data, perform a combined upgrade and migration with a single downtime, and migrate 27 company codes. The result was an 87.5% reduction in database size (32 TB to 4 TB), a leaner, better-performing system, simplified data and processes, and readiness to adopt SAP S/4HANA innovations and omnichannel capabilities.
