Case Study: New England Biolabs achieves digitalized production planning and batch traceability with SAP HANA

A SAP HANA Case Study

Preview of the New England Biolabs Case Study

How Does a Small Community of Scientists Field a Big Army to Fight Disease

New England Biolabs (NEB) is a 500‑person life‑sciences company that develops enzymes for genomic research. As it grew into a global leader, NEB faced fragmented, manual production systems — critical process knowledge lived in notebooks and scientists’ heads — making production planning, cost control, batch visibility and regulatory compliance increasingly difficult.

NEB migrated from SAP Business Suite on SAP HANA to SAP S/4HANA with SAP Fiori and Early Adopter Care, creating full bills of materials that capture every component and process. The result: automated recordkeeping, material and batch traceability, simplified cross‑functional monitoring, tighter costing of expensive components, and faster order and service response — supporting scale (283 restriction enzymes produced and >200,000 data points captured) and improved customer satisfaction.
