A SAP HANA Case Study
The Direction Générale de la Gendarmerie Nationale (DGGN), France’s military police with about 120,000 employees, needed to modernize and centralize HR management to support complex public-safety operations. The organization sought to upgrade its SAP ERP Human Capital Management, migrate from Oracle to SAP HANA, gain transparency on custom code, prepare staff for the new platform, and retain in-house control of IT operations without disrupting business.
Using SAP Enterprise Support services — including SAP Solution Manager, the Enterprise Support Academy, value maps, and a scope-and-effort analyzer — the DGGN completed the SAP ERP HCM upgrade and SAP HANA migration in eight months using internal teams. The project ran without business disruption, cut monthly database-related hours by about 1,000, reduced data footprint (300 GB vs 600 GB on Oracle), increased system usage by over 20%, delivered up to €100,000 in consulting savings (plus €25,000 on external tools), and strengthened in-house skills while lowering total cost of ownership and improving security.
