How Did Faster Data Processing Help a Major Chemical Company Streamline Operations and Cut Costs

Kolon Group, a South Korean chemical conglomerate with 19 subsidiaries and a wide product portfolio, faced slowing performance and rising hardware costs as rapidly growing data loads strained its SAP ERP and SAP BW systems running on Oracle. The company needed faster, real-time processing, better visibility into operations, and more efficient period‑end closing to support decision-making across the group.

Working with its internal IT arm Kolon Benit and SAP Digital Business Services, Kolon migrated to SAP S/4HANA with the SAP Fiori UX using SAP Value Assurance and Early Adopter Care. The move cut usable data storage from 3.7 TB to 0.57 TB (about 75% lower IT storage), is expected to reduce infrastructure costs ~30% over 10 years, and delivered dramatic performance gains — up to 145× faster financial data access, 4.6–205× faster supply‑chain reporting, and 5–30× faster BW analysis — plus real‑time mobile visibility, faster workflows, and reduced operational risk.
