Getting the Most Out of Data with SAP Business Warehouse powered by SAP HANA

E.ON Energie Kundenservice, the sales and service unit of E.ON Energie Deutschland, faced slow access to insights hidden in the consumption and sales records of some 6 million customers. The company needed to consolidate two SAP BW systems, boost performance and scalability, and enable granular, customer-level analysis for better forecasting, faster financial close, and automation of manual processes.

Working with E.ON Business Services and SAP, E.ON merged its warehouses and migrated from Oracle to SAP BW on SAP HANA in the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud with SAP BusinessObjects as the front end. The rollout (live in eight months with three days’ downtime) delivered dramatic results — 62% faster data loads, 86–99% faster query response, 10x database compression, jobs reduced from hours or days to five minutes — improving data quality, speeding collections and close processes, and enabling individual-customer forecasts and future smart‑metering initiatives.
