Creating an Integrated, Real-Time Drug Retailing Platform with SAP HANA

Hong Xiang Yi Xin Tang Pharmaceutical Group (HXYXT), the largest pharmaceutical retailer in southwest China with over 2,400 stores, 14,000 employees and RMB 4 billion in revenue, needed a modern information infrastructure to sustain rapid growth. Rapid expansion drove exponential data growth (about 9 TB by 2013) that degraded BI performance, caused monthly access lockouts for core users, and reduced operational effectiveness and analytics capability.

To address this, HXYXT teamed with the SAP Active Global Support organization and in July 2013 moved daily transaction processing and big-data analysis onto a single SAP HANA in-memory platform. The deployment delivered real-time POS reporting (employee metrics accessible in ~2 seconds), 40x faster information delivery, improved resource and inventory allocation, more accurate forecasting and reporting, faster business processes, and a scalable foundation for continued retail and e-commerce expansion.
