Coop Group, one of Switzerland’s largest supermarket chains with more than 2,400 stores, faced a promotions-planning challenge: manual, rule-based allocation and limited historical data made it hard to predict store-level demand for promotional items, causing overstock, waste and disappointed customers while consuming large amounts of staff time.
Coop implemented an integrated solution using SAP Promotion Management, the SAP Customer Activity Repository’s unified demand forecast and SAP HANA–based machine learning with a self-learning AI model and “trust score” to automate forecasts and enable exception-based planning. The result: more accurate, store-specific promotion quantities, substantially reduced overstock and waste, 60% less time spent on campaign management (cutting annual promotion decisions from ~20 million to ~8 million), fresher products and improved customer experience.
