Banco Atlántida, Honduras’s first bank with more than 100 years of history and over one million customers, faced slow, manual retrieval of decades-old customer data stored on magnetic tapes while new data volumes grew rapidly. The bank needed a flexible, scalable way to meet compliance requests, reduce storage costs, and lay the groundwork for future Big Data initiatives.

Banco Atlántida extended its on‑premise SAP HANA with SAP HANA Cloud (including the data lake and data tiering), SAP Data Intelligence, and SAP services support to securely consolidate and manage compliance data. The move delivered instant access to data that once took a week to retrieve (16 TB of compliance data), strengthened governance and compliance, optimized storage costs, enabled queries across structured and unstructured data, and prepared the bank to deploy machine learning for deeper customer insights.
