A SAP HANA Case Study
Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) is a New Delhi–based electricity distributor serving more than 1.4 million customers in a tightly regulated market overseen by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission. Faced with rapidly growing IT data (about 20% a year) from SAP and non‑SAP systems, TPDDL needed a reliable analytics platform to meet regulatory reporting requirements, support management decision making, and shorten the time to produce critical business reports.
TPDDL implemented SAP Business Warehouse powered by SAP HANA to provide near‑real‑time reporting across sources, simplify regulatory prudence checks, and centralize analytics. The move cut database size from 3.5 TB to 600 GB (≈80%), reduced debt‑report extraction from two days to about five hours (≈90%), shrank new report development from three days to two hours, saved roughly 35% of monthly workdays, and lowered annual TCO by Rs 7.2 million—while improving revenue realization, reducing AT&C losses, and enabling faster, data‑driven decisions.
