A SAP Fieldglass Case Study
One of North America’s largest paperboard and packaging producers — with about $10 billion in net sales, 26,000 employees and more than 245 facilities — faced the challenge of standardizing and scaling light industrial labor after a 2011 merger. The company needed to manage highly variable, high‑volume shift demand, frequent turnover, differing pay rules across locations, eliminate purchase orders for external labor, consolidate suppliers and ensure compliance across a multi‑state, multi‑country footprint while expanding its existing SAP Fieldglass program.
The company expanded its SAP Fieldglass VMS using a Vendor‑on‑Premise model and a Program Office that coordinates daily production needs, sources workers, enforces onboarding and compliance, and relies on supplier timesheet uploads, auto‑register and sophisticated rate structures. Results include management of ~1,250 contingent workers and $65M annual spend, reduced job‑post‑to‑registration time to ~0.5 days and timesheet approval to ~0.2 days, supplier rationalization to five primary vendors covering 90% of spend, faster fills, better rates and consistent safety and compliance practices.
