British Telecommunications (BT), a global communications company with about 100,000 employees, faced a fragmented HR landscape of inflexible legacy systems, inconsistent manual processes and near-zero self-service. This heavy reliance on HR teams for administrative work undermined BT’s ambition to be seen as a modern digital employer, slowed decision-making and made it harder to attract and retain top talent.

BT, with Accenture and SAP, launched the “I Connect” platform, integrating SAP SuccessFactors HCM with existing SAP technologies to create a single, device-agnostic self-service HR experience. The platform consolidated and standardized processes (200 to 80), retired 30+ legacy systems, saved an estimated 1 million colleague hours per year, delivered instantaneous HR reporting and sped manager actions from hours to minutes; it went live on 5 Sept 2022 for ~100,000 users.
