OSRAM Carving Out the General Lighting Lamps Business with SAP Landscape Transformation

OSRAM, a multinational high-tech lighting company, faced the immense challenge of carving out its general lighting lamps business, including its IT infrastructure, to establish it as a new independent legal entity. This required the complex separation of 320 systems and 267 TB of data. To achieve this, OSRAM partnered with the vendor SAP, utilizing their SAP Landscape Transformation software and expertise to manage one of the most ambitious IT projects in German corporate history.

SAP's Data Management & Landscape Transformation group served as the trusted advisor for the system split, which was executed in a single 4.5-day downtime period alongside a move to the IBM cloud. The 12-month project was completed on time, within budget, and with high quality. The successful separation allowed OSRAM to focus on its future as a high-tech innovation leader and enabled the new entity, LEDVANCE, to operate independently with its own fully functional IT landscape.
