A SAP Ariba Case Study
RELX Group (Reed Elsevier), a global provider of information and publishing solutions, needed to make its back-office operations leaner by eliminating manual invoice scanning, reducing rework and exceptions, and consolidating four invoice streams across indirect spend, services, book production, and journal production. The company also wanted to better align global procurement and finance and create a foundation for contract compliance and early-payment discounts.
Reed Elsevier joined the Ariba Network and deployed Ariba Procure-to-Order and Invoice Automation, starting with its Elsevier division and planning broader rollout. The result: real-time invoice status for suppliers, touchless processing that drives >99% on-time payments, more than 89% of addressable invoices processed electronically, a reduction in AP headcount (more than five fewer staff), improved PO compliance, and new opportunities to capture early-payment discounts.
