A SAP Ariba Case Study
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO), Australia’s main revenue collection agency, needed better control over a workforce that includes employees, temporary staff, contingent workers and SOW service providers across all states and territories. The agency had limited visibility into supplier performance, market rates and overall contingent labor costs, and faced strict compliance requirements—so it sought a Vendor Management System to reduce costs, improve contractor engagement and compliance, and create more efficient processes.
The ATO implemented SAP Fieldglass in 2015 (delivered in 15 weeks) to provide a single, automated point of reference from requisition through payment. The VMS centralized supplier metrics and KPI tracking, automated payments, sped the procure-to-pay cycle, and doubled the managed external workforce without expanding staff—improving visibility, accountability, contractor retention and real-time analytics while freeing resources for redeployment.
