How Will One of the World’s Most Popular Sports Leagues Radically Transform the Football Experience

LaLiga, Spain’s top professional football league and a global sports brand with 42 clubs, 42 stadiums and rapid international growth (from ~40 to ~450 employees), set out to become a broader entertainment and lifestyle company. To support expansion and new business models it needed to replace outdated, disparate IT systems, eliminate manual processes, get reliable real-time financial and workforce data, and find ways to improve procurement, stadium operations and the fan experience.

Working with Birchman Group, IBM and SAP, LaLiga implemented SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Ariba to create an integrated digital core. The rollout automated processes across lines of business, delivered real-time financials and match-level P&L, cut month-end close by three days, modernized HR and procurement, freed resources for community initiatives, and provided analytics and operational insight to enhance scheduling, stadium operations and the end-to-end fan experience.
