E ‐Business Strategy Improves Service and Lowers Cost

Fisher Scientific, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, supplies laboratory equipment, chemicals and services to over 350,000 customers in pharma, biotech, hospitals, academia and government. In 2003 a customer asked Fisher to join the Ariba Network; although Fisher already had an internal e-business system, it needed to integrate Ariba-based orders into its processes to meet customer requirements and scale e-procurement.

Fisher adopted a consultative approach and integrated Ariba services (PunchOut, purchase orders, PO acknowledgments and e-invoicing), making integration straightforward and driving customer compliance. Today more than 65 customers transact through the Ariba Network, improving order and invoice efficiency, lowering transaction and support costs, and increasing order visibility; Fisher, as a member of the Ariba Seller Steering Committee, reports that Ariba has helped improve processing and invoicing efficiency.
