Parts Authority Gains Complete System Failover with FreePBX

Parts Authority, a New York-based auto parts retailer with more than 70 locations, needed a simpler and more reliable way to manage its growing phone environment. After moving from traditional telephony to Asterisk-based VoIP, the company struggled with poor call quality, dropped calls, and the complexity of managing dozens of PBXs with a small support team. It also lacked automated disaster recovery and failover, prompting a move to Sangoma and FreePBX.

Sangoma implemented FreePBX along with SBCs and SIP trunking to consolidate Parts Authority’s phone systems into regional PBXs with built-in redundancy and disaster recovery. The new setup reduced about 50 PBXs to three primary regional PBXs plus backup PBXs, cut dropped/missed call rates from 3–5% to under 1%, and reduced phone system management from four people to one. Parts Authority also gained complete failover, easier phone provisioning, and better reporting and maintenance.
