VivaCell‑MTS, Armenia’s leading telecom with over 2.1 million subscribers, wanted to offer customers free calls to friends and family by zero‑rating Skype traffic, while avoiding fraud, abuse and disruption to monthly data quotas. The challenge was to launch an attractive, differentiating subscriber plan quickly and manage its impact on network policy and charging.
Using Sandvine’s traffic classification and real‑time online charging platform, VivaCell‑MTS implemented zero‑rated Skype on select USB modem plans and as a low‑cost bolt‑on for other customers. The solution prevented fraud and abuse, enabled rapid deployment of the new service, improved quality of experience, and helped the operator stand out in a competitive market.
