A Sandvine Case Study
nTelos Wireless, a regional provider serving parts of Virginia, West Virginia and neighboring states, faced subscriber anxiety about data usage when it launched a highly anticipated smartphone in 2012. To avoid customers being charged for large software downloads, nTelos needed a solution that could accurately identify update traffic and integrate in real time with charging systems to prevent overcharges or revenue leakage.
nTelos implemented Sandvine’s Usage Management and traffic-classification technology to zero-rate the device’s software updates, enabling charge-free updates and preserving a quality experience for 3G and 4G customers. The deployment gave nTelos the network visibility and real-time control required for safe zero-rating—and demonstrated that operators can extend zero-rating to their own or partner content as needed.
