Wetteronline Offers A Better Business Forecast With The Help Of Dell And Sandisk

WetterOnline, one of Germany’s largest weather, travel and climate sites, was struggling with poor performance, high costs and an oversized footprint from a scale‑out storage infrastructure and nearly 170 physical servers. The legacy stack created I/O bottlenecks, long processing times and slow time‑to‑market, so the company needed a virtualized, consolidated architecture able to handle high IOPS and deliver faster, more agile services.

WetterOnline deployed an end‑to‑end virtualized solution from Dell with SanDisk flash (Fusion ioMemory and SanDisk ION Accelerator) on Dell PowerEdge servers and VMware vSphere, reducing the environment to 18 servers (nearly 10× consolidation). The flash‑based design eliminated I/O bottlenecks and cut storage latency, improving radar update speed by 25% (from 5 to 4 minutes), accelerating some customized services by up to 60%, halving the time to introduce new services and delivering up to 2× better database response.
