A SanDisk Case Study
The Suntory Foundation for Life Sciences deployed next‑generation sequencing to study genomes and faced massive I/O and processing challenges: a single run produced tens to hundreds of gigabytes (billions of reads), and existing analysis workflows could take up to 24 hours to complete, limiting researchers’ ability to iterate and discover unknown sequences.
The lab implemented SanDisk Fusion ioMemory ioDrive2 PCIe accelerators in an HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server to provide high‑speed I/O for bioinformatics workflows. Processing times dropped roughly 40× (from ~24 hours to 30–60 minutes), enabling faster analysis, collaboration on hops genome research that led to a published paper, and more time for interpretation and further research.
