A SanDisk Case Study
TekSouth, a Birmingham-based systems integrator, supports the US Air Force’s Commanders’ Resource Integration System (CRIS), the ADS for unclassified financial data. CRIS needed near real-time reporting for 15,000+ users (up to 1.2M queries/month), frequent hourly ETL jobs without impacting interactive queries, strict global failover, and relief from datacenter sprawl, power and cooling pressures.
TekSouth replaced platter arrays with SanDisk Fusion ioMemory (ioDrive) cards, consolidating the environment from racks of 27 disk arrays and 400+ drives to three servers. The change eliminated I/O contention, doubled per-server capability, and delivered 3× more concurrent users and queries, 2× greater workload capacity, a 16:1 footprint reduction, 1/16th power and cooling, and eliminated maintenance for the former disk arrays; in production 82% of ad-hoc queries returned under 10 seconds and average response time fell to 23 seconds.
