A SanDisk Case Study
Santos, a 3,500-employee Australian oil and gas explorer, needed to share large seismic datasets among geoscientists but was hampered by poor back-end performance. The Paradigm Naming Service (PNS) relied on a remote NAS, which introduced I/O bottlenecks, high latency, and frequent freezes/crashes that frustrated users and slowed exploration workflows.
Santos consolidated virtual PNS servers onto a single Dell PowerEdge R730 and installed two mirrored SanDisk Fusion ioMemory SX300 PCIe accelerator cards (12.8 TB total), presenting the fast local storage via NFS to the VMs. The change delivered ultra-low latency and consistent QoS, enabled 3:1 server consolidation, cut server I/O wait from ~25–30% to zero, eliminated freezing and crashing, reduced external storage footprint, and greatly improved user satisfaction.
