Prime Focus Makes Clash Of The Titans 3d In Just Eight Weeks With Fusion Iomemory Solutions

Prime Focus, a global visual entertainment services studio, was tasked with converting Warner Brothers' Clash of the Titans to stereoscopic 3D in just eight weeks. The team faced severe pipeline bottlenecks: large 2K+ stereo files had to be copied in carefully sequenced network streams to disk arrays, causing fragmentation, frequent defragmentation downtime, risk of RAID failures, and an inability to write and play footage simultaneously — all of which threatened the tight schedule and review turnaround.

Prime Focus replaced projection-system disk arrays with SanDisk Fusion ioMemory/ioDrive cards, allowing network reads and local flash writes to run in parallel and contiguously so playback could begin almost immediately. Implementation was simple and reliable, and the studio saw dramatic gains: 2–4x more shots per day, support for 20x heavier data loads enabling 2K+ stereo playback, more shots reviewed per session with faster cycles between reviews, elimination of defragmentation and RAID risk, and much higher overall productivity.
