Pipkins Hosts A Cost-Effective Cloud Solution Without Compromise

Pipkins, a leading supplier of workforce management software for commercial call centers, needed to scale its hosted Point Vantage platform to meet extraordinary demand. Its Oracle database was I/O-bound and could not support the higher concurrent workloads, and any upgrade had to be significantly more cost-effective than traditional disk/SAN solutions so the hosted offering could remain attractive and profitable for cost-conscious customers.

Pipkins deployed a SanDisk ioMemory Fusion flash-powered architecture that eliminated database queuing, cut average read wait to about 0.87 ms, and reduced server CPU utilization from ~81% to 6%. The new system exceeded the 6x data-load target, improved rack density roughly 87:1, and delivered enterprise performance at a fraction of the cost of alternatives—lowering operational expenses and enabling a profitable, competitively priced cloud subscription service.
