A SanDisk Case Study
Online University was facing serious intranet performance problems that reduced employee productivity: MySQL databases on four servers were slowed by disk latency, causing long-running queries, replication lag and a spike in support tickets. The lead systems engineer was tasked with finding a solution that would restore responsiveness and reliability for core productivity applications.
After benchmarking, the university deployed SanDisk Fusion ioMemory ioDrive cards, which cut a 2½-hour query to about five minutes and delivered roughly 30x faster query performance, reduced replication from minutes to seconds, and all but eliminated performance-related support tickets. The new design consolidated the database layer onto two HP servers with ioDrives, repurposed two former DB servers as application servers, halved database hardware, enabled failover redundancy and produced substantial capital and operating cost savings.
