A SanDisk Case Study
Ning, the world's largest platform for creating custom social websites, was hit by rapid growth and volatile traffic that exposed I/O bottlenecks: leaderboard replication lag, huge spikes in media-file requests that overwhelmed its blob metastore, and slow analytics workflows that took 8–9 hours to complete.
By moving key MySQL workloads onto SanDisk Fusion ioMemory (ioDrive) devices for its Engagement, Metastore and Analytics systems, Ning eliminated replication lag (from 1,990s to 1s), achieved 12× metastore throughput (3,238 → 39,600 QPS), and reduced analytics extract time from ~8 hours to under 1 hour (8×). The change delivered near real-time leaderboards, faster customer dashboards, greater stability, a smaller server footprint and lower overall costs.
