National Laboratory Delivers Supercomputing Performance Using Fusion Iomemory Solutions

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) needed to build the Data Intensive Testbed for the NNSA’s Hyperion program, delivering extreme supercomputing performance for national-security simulations while sharply reducing power use to meet new energy-conservation goals.

LLNL deployed SanDisk Fusion ioMemory (ioSAN and ioDrive Duo) to create a two-rack high-performance storage array that achieved more than 52,000,000 IOPS and 400 GB/s aggregate bandwidth. The solution replaced a 54-rack hard-disk design (and would outperform over 100 leading all‑flash systems costing >$300M), delivering 26.9× more bandwidth per rack unit, 109× more IOPS per rack unit and a 46.5× reduction in access latency while dramatically shrinking space, power and cost.
