Mixi Mixes Iodrives Into A Mysql Database To Achieve 10 To 1 Server Consolidation

Mixi, Japan’s largest social networking site, needed a more agile MySQL database infrastructure to keep up with its rapidly growing user base while reducing maintenance overhead, costs, and performance risks. The company turned to SanDisk and its Fusion ioMemory / ioDrive solution to replace a conventional disk-based setup.

SanDisk helped Mixi consolidate its distributed databases onto ioDrive devices, allowing the workload per server to increase dramatically. The result was a 10:1 server consolidation, a database speed increase, a 75% reduction in data center space costs, and 80% lower power consumption, while also making maintenance and software updates much faster and easier.
