A SanDisk Case Study
Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), operator of the J-GLOBAL science and technology portal, needed to convert decades of research metadata (over 36 million records and more than 1 million new items yearly) into RDF/Linked Data to enable multifaceted searches. That effort pushed expected data to tens of billions of triples (15.5 billion for JST alone, ~62 billion globally), requiring terabytes of memory and very high I/O and processing performance—within a constrained budget.
To meet those demands JST deployed an HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server paired with three SanDisk Fusion ioMemory ioDrive2 Duo PCIe cards, providing low-latency, high-bandwidth flash storage. The solution removed I/O bottlenecks, delivering measured reads up to 2.8 GB/s and writes up to 1.8 GB/s, accelerated searches and data processing, enabled publication of roughly 3 million items from May 2015, and improved user response times and service economics.
