First Rate Improves Processor Utilization Four-Fold

First Rate, a provider of investment performance measurement and business intelligence for wealth managers, was experiencing severe reporting slowdowns: after-hours processing ran into the morning and clients saw degraded performance. Analysis showed poor I/O, disk thrashing and only ~50% CPU utilization as reporting and batch jobs competed for disk access, and a SAN was cost-prohibitive.

First Rate installed one 80GB SanDisk Fusion ioMemory ioDrive in each of four reporting servers and moved the high‑I/O Edatemp files to local flash. Completion time fell from about 4.5 hours to 1.5 hours, processor utilization rose roughly four-fold (to 90–100%), throughput improved 3x, two vaults were repurposed, and the company expects a full ROI within six months.
