Callcredit Gets Five Years Of Performance Credit With Fusion Iomemory Solutions

Callcredit Information Group, a leading UK credit reference agency, faced tight turnaround windows for large, complex batch scoring jobs against an MS SQL Server backed by a 70-disk SAN. Late-arriving input files and rapid client growth exposed I/O and CPU bottlenecks that threatened service levels; a conventional SAN expansion (five additional racks) would have been costly and only a short-term fix.

Callcredit replaced the SAN performance tier with four 640GB Fusion ioMemory ioDrive Duo cards and offloaded processing to two additional servers, moving the database onto the ioDrive-equipped server and relegating the SAN to backup/failover. The change delivered roughly 25x higher IOPS and 10x more bandwidth, produced 2–4x faster batch runs, shifted the bottleneck to CPU (enabling further tuning), provided an estimated five years of growth headroom, and cost about half of a minimal SAN upgrade while greatly reducing space and operational overhead.
