National Health Service Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) manages the collection, processing and delivery of blood and tissue products to more than 250 hospitals across the UK, using over 200 specialist vehicles and 250+ drivers. To meet the extreme reliability, traceability and time-sensitivity requirements of this service, Sanderson was engaged to provide an integrated transport management solution, including a CALIDUS-based Transport Management System (TMS), mobile ePOD, route optimisation and telematics integration.

Sanderson implemented a fully integrated CALIDUS TMS that interfaces with NHSBT’s PULSE system, deployed CALIDUS ePOD on Android to over 250 drivers, fitted TomTom telematics to over 200 vehicles and integrated DPS route optimisation and a CALIDUS Portal for live tracking. The solution consolidated planning for routine and emergency movements, enabled barcode-level tracking across processing centres and 15 stock holding units, provided hospitals with live ETAs, and delivered a measurable step change in operational control and visibility for NHSBT.
