U.S. Hospital Improves Patient Care Delivery With Samsung Cloud Displays

Mid-Size Hospital in Indiana needed bedside computer access to support EMR and a Bedside Medication Verification (BMV) system but found laptops, COWs and in-room PCs were bulky, costly and hard to support. The hospital worked with Samsung to pilot and then deploy Samsung SyncMaster Cloud displays (Samsung Cloud displays) connected to a VMware vSphere virtual desktop environment and USB-connected Bluetooth scanners in patient rooms.

Samsung’s cloud displays provided thin/zero-client functionality built into the monitor, allowing clinicians to log in at the bedside and run the BMV system without bulky hardware. The Samsung solution enabled fast deployment, reduced installation time from about four hours per PC to roughly 30 minutes, saved about $1,100 per device versus COWs, dramatically lowered IT support calls and eliminated virus/breakage downtime—improving workflow and bedside medication verification.
