The University of Akron needed to establish a competitive esports program, requiring high-performance PC systems that could handle graphics-intensive games and survive extended gameplay sessions. The university partnered with vendor Samsung and Gravity Gaming to design a solution that would meet their strict budget and performance needs.

The solution implemented by Samsung utilized 860 EVO SATA SSDs in 93 custom-built systems, which significantly reduced game load times and allowed for rapid system imaging. The Samsung SSDs also generated less heat than traditional hard drives. As a result, the university's esports program benefited from faster load times, such as a drop from 42.3 to 32.6 seconds for one title, and the ability to re-image all 93 systems in less than a day.
