A Samsung Case Study
Revention, Inc., a maker of high-performance POS terminals for restaurants and bars, needed to move from HDDs to reliable SSDs after early solid‑state drives from other suppliers proved unacceptable — with DOA units and failure rates as high as 25% (later reduced to ~7% by those suppliers). After extensive bench and blind field testing, Revention evaluated and selected Samsung SSDs (470, then 830 and later 840 Series) to meet its performance and reliability requirements.
Samsung supplied the SSDs used as standard equipment in Revention’s R2310 and R3310 terminals, and the results were dramatic: of roughly 5,000 terminals shipped with Samsung drives through early 2013, only two experienced SSD problems, data‑corruption issues from power irregularities “almost completely” disappeared, and customer complaints became nearly non‑existent. Samsung SSDs also sped imaging 5–8× versus HDDs, allowing Revention to avoid buying additional ~$10,000 imaging systems and grow product deployment more efficiently, with about 60% of customers now using Samsung‑equipped terminals.
