Samsung Series 7 Slate PC Helps High-Schoolers Learn 21st-Century Science Skills

Geary County Schools USD 475, a Kansas district serving roughly 8,000 students with about 1,700 at Junction City High School, faced five‑year‑old introductory biology textbooks and chose to build a digital CK‑12 “FlexBook” to meet next‑generation science standards. To deliver interactive content, support Vernier probeware and digital microscopes, and provide a mobile 1:1 touchscreen experience with full productivity apps, the district turned to Samsung for a device that combined notebook power with tablet mobility.

Samsung supplied the Series 7 Slate PC (running Windows 7 Professional) and in 2012–13 rolled out 250 slates to science classrooms, enabling students to run multimedia FlexBook content, connect sensors and microscopes via USB/Bluetooth, capture images for analysis, and collect field data. The Samsung deployment quickly expanded beyond introductory biology into other science courses, drove higher engagement, collaboration and self‑directed learning, and delivered measurable scale (250 devices) that better prepares students for college and careers.
