A Samsung Case Study
UCHealth, a nonprofit network of ten acute-care hospitals and more than 100 clinics, wanted to give inpatients tablets to access MyChart Bedside, entertainment and online connectivity but found that wiping personal data between patients took up to 45 minutes per device — a burden nursing staff couldn’t absorb. UCHealth moved to Android and partnered with Samsung, selecting Galaxy Tab A devices and Knox Custom Configurator (KCC) to find a faster, HIPAA-compliant way to recycle tablets.
Samsung worked with UCHealth to create the Data Eraser app integrated with KCC, enabling a one‑step wipe that preserves a whitelisted set of apps while removing all personal data; combined with antimicrobial cases and UV sanitizing, the solution cut the process from 71 steps/45 minutes to a single step/about 60–90 seconds. UCHealth now uses roughly 260 Samsung Tab A devices, estimates $310,000 annual staff-time savings, a four‑month payback, ~205% ROI and an approximate three‑year NPV of $678,000, while reporting higher patient engagement.
