A Samsung Case Study
Roger Williams University faced acute technology constraints that threatened its "Affordable Excellence" initiative: nearly 500 students in the School of Architecture, Art and Historic Preservation competed for just 58 high-end workstations, and the School of Continuing Studies struggled to enable meaningful collaboration and access for adult and distance learners. Samsung partnered with RWU to address these gaps, integrating its display hardware with the university’s rCloud virtual desktop strategy.
Samsung deployed an initial pilot of 100 27-inch Samsung LED monitors (SC650 series) tied to the rCloud, then expanded to 275 more monitors, zero‑client cloud displays, and multiple 65‑inch interactive whiteboards plus a Collaborative Learning Lab with 21 cloud displays at SCS. The Samsung solution increased computing access nearly tenfold, dramatically reduced rendering times, cut printing costs by roughly half, removed the need for many students to buy high‑end laptops, and enabled repurposing of labs—helping RWU avoid an estimated $10–$20 million capital expansion while boosting studio collaboration and learning outcomes.
