Samsung Direct-Lit LED Displays Win a Leading Role in Red Robin’s Brand Transformation

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers launched a 2012 brand transformation to modernize and standardize the patchwork of aging TVs across its more than 300 company-owned restaurants. The chain prioritized image quality, total cost of ownership and energy efficiency, and selected Samsung—specifically the 55-inch Samsung MD Series commercial LED displays—as the new standard to support in-restaurant programming and a more consistent guest experience.

Samsung’s direct‑lit MD Series (MD55B) displays were rolled out with integrator PlayNetwork—more than 650 units installed in 2012—replacing CRT and CCFL-backlit screens. The Samsung solution delivered HD picture and independent-channel capability for different areas, enabled differentiated guest spaces (e.g., sports in the bar), cut energy use by about 33% versus equivalent CCFL models, and lowered lifetime costs while improving overall customer satisfaction.
